Today we had our presentation at the Rotary conference in Ekaterinburg and we want to think of it as a success. Not at least Oskar made a formidable performance.
The day was warm and sunny, perfect conditions for going sightseeing with my host Igor and his fellow Rotarian friend Ibadulla who made an excellent translator. We visited the burial spot for the Romanov family (the last tsar family) in the Ganina Yama forest, which is now a serene congregation of wooden churches and a monastery. On the tour we also went to the monument of the Europe-Asia border for some photo opportunities and an amusing little mishap of which we have promised never to speak.
After the sightseeing we split up in order to get our luggage and eat dinner. Oskar and I went with my hosts Igor and Elena to one of their restaurants for a premium dinner. As the flight to Volgograd will depart very early in the morning we concluded that we could just as well abandon any hopes of sleep. While Thomas attended the Rotary gala dinner the rest of us enjoyed the company of our younger hosts in a nearby cocktail bar. Russian hospitality seems to be a good substitute for sleep and we are grateful to all our new friends who have showed us such an abundance of it.
Yours truly, Christian
