Victory day in Volgograd

The victory day in Volgograd didn’t offer the best possible wheater. There were some mild showers, rather cold and grey. We attended the victory day military parade from some very good VIP seats which our hosts had been able to get their hands on. It is almost imposible to do a military parade justice in picture or video format, you have to be there to experience it. But here are at least a short movie showing some parts of the parade.

After the parade our hosts took us on a stroll around the city and the different celebrations. For me it has been a really humbling experience to see and understand how present the war still is here in Volgograd. Since Sweden was never really that involved in the war it has been rather forgotten. In Volgograd about one million people died. The parade was attended by still living decorated war heroes. One could only wonder what their eyes had experienced during the battle.

In the afternoon we went out to one of the rotarians villas for a barbeque party

Later in the evening we went to the grand opening of a new night club which one of the host families son owned. We visited the night club the day before the grand openening

I had very little confidence that they would be able to get the place ready in only 1 day before the grand opening, but the somehow did and we had an awesome evening, dancing until three o’clock in the morning.

Best Regards,

Anders
